The Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Curriculum & Instruction within the Language, Diversity & Literacy Studies Track with a focus in Early Literacy education to begin September 1, 2026. This position requires a strong educational background in early literacy and knowledge of teaching young multilingual learners. The position requires the ability to teach master's and doctoral courses both face-to-face and online.
Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Develop and teach master's level and doctoral level courses in the field of early literacy education
Oversee the Professional Reading Specialist program for master's students
Liaise with the College of Education Certification Office
Maintain records of candidates for the Professional Reading Specialist program
Advise doctoral students
Oversee and chair student dissertations
Develop partnerships with school districts and state Region Service Centers
Actively participate in department and university initiatives to ensure quality programs, overall excellence in the Professional Reading Specialist program, master's program, and doctoral program
Exhibit strong skills in scholarly research, including
Maintaining a strong publishing record commensurate with rank and
Pursuing grant funding opportunities
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments, responsibilities, and functions of the Language, Diversity & Literacy Studies program
Required Qualifications
An earned doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Education or a closely related field, with evidence of graduate-level coursework (minimum of 18 credit hours) in literacy Three or more years of early or elementary literacy teaching experience as a teacher of record in a K-12, public school setting Experience teaching diverse and multilingual learners Experience providing research-informed instruction in literacy Record of scholarship commensurate with rank Research agenda focused on a facet of emergent literacy or early literacy Experience interfacing with schools and state education agencies
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
Professional Reading Specialist or similar credential
Experience teaching appropriate university courses and online teaching
Record of original research
Evidence of grant procurement
Active engagement in professional organizations in the field of Literacy/Reading Education
Experience collaborating with K-12 schools and other community partners
Experience utilizing learning management systems (LMS) and computer applications is preferred (i.e. Blackboard, Canvas).
